Dr. Emmanuel Koroma Kamara

Dr. Emmanuel Koroma Kamara is a consultant endocrinologist at Connaught Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone's foremost tertiary hospital and primary teaching institution. With 13 years of specialist experience and MRCP (UK) qualifications, he specialises in diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, and metabolic syndrome. Connaught Hospital, affiliated with the University of Sierra Leone's College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), serves as the national referral centre for complex medical cases. Dr. Kamara's MRCP (UK) qualification — achieved through rigorous British physician examination — places him among the most highly trained endocrinologists in West Africa.

Dr. Kamara completed his MBBS at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) in Freetown and subsequently achieved the MRCP (UK) — the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, one of the most demanding and internationally respected physician qualifications. He completed subspecialty training in Endocrinology and Diabetes through an accredited Endocrinology Subspecialty Training programme, gaining expertise in insulin therapy, thyroid sonography, and the management of endocrine emergencies including adrenal crisis and thyroid storm. His diabetes expertise covers Type 1, Type 2, and secondary diabetes, with particular emphasis on insulin initiation and intensification, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) management, and systematic diabetic complication screening for retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy. He manages metabolic syndrome, addressing the rising burden of obesity, dyslipidaemia, and hypertension in Sierra Leone's population. His thyroid practice covers hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, goitre assessment, and post-thyroidectomy management.
