Dr. Peter Horváth

Dr. Peter Horváth is a senior interventional cardiologist at University Hospital Bratislava, Slovakia's largest academic hospital and the primary cardiovascular referral center in the capital. With 20 years of clinical experience, he has performed over 3,500 coronary interventions and established himself as one of Slovakia's leading cardiologists.

Dr. Horváth completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at the Vienna General Hospital (AKH Wien) in Austria, where he trained in complex PCI and cardiac imaging in a high-volume international center. Vienna's proximity to Bratislava — the two capitals are just 60 km apart — has created natural ties between Slovak and Austrian cardiology.

He leads the interventional cardiology program at University Hospital Bratislava and has introduced FFR-guided PCI and rotational atherectomy for complex calcified lesions. He is active in the Slovak Society of Cardiology and participates in European quality registries for coronary intervention.

Dr. Horváth is an associate professor at Comenius University Faculty of Medicine and is known for his precision in complex procedures and his commitment to evidence-based practice.

Dr. Horváth graduated from Comenius University Faculty of Medicine in Bratislava in 2001. He completed his cardiology residency at University Hospital Bratislava and undertook an interventional cardiology fellowship at Vienna General Hospital (AKH Wien), Austria (2006–2007). His PhD from Comenius University in 2010 focused on outcomes in primary PCI for STEMI. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and is certified by the Slovak Medical Chamber in internal medicine and cardiology.

Dr. Horváth specializes in complex percutaneous coronary interventions including bifurcation PCI, chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures, and calcified lesion management with rotational atherectomy. He uses FFR/iFR for physiological assessment and IVUS/OCT for intravascular imaging guidance. He performs comprehensive echocardiography and manages heart failure including optimization of medical therapy and device therapy evaluation. He also coordinates acute MI management including primary PCI in the 24/7 on-call rotation.

Dr. Horváth has published over 22 peer-reviewed articles in journals including the European Heart Journal and Cardiology. His research focuses on primary PCI outcomes, complex coronary interventions, and the role of physiological assessment in catheterization laboratory decision-making. He collaborates with Austrian cardiology centers and has presented at ESC congresses.

Dr. Horváth speaks Slovak, Czech, and English and sees international patients for cardiology consultations and interventional procedures.
