Dr. Jure Prešern

Dr. Jure Prešern is a neurologist at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia's primary academic hospital. With 17 years of clinical neurology experience, he has developed expertise in stroke medicine, multiple sclerosis, and cognitive neurology.

Dr. Prešern completed a neurology fellowship at the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland, gaining training in acute stroke management protocols, MS disease-modifying therapy, and memory clinic approaches to early dementia diagnosis. He returned to Ljubljana where he established Slovenia's first comprehensive memory clinic at UMC Ljubljana.

He leads the MS outpatient clinic at the hospital and manages patients on all approved disease-modifying therapies. His multidisciplinary approach involves close collaboration with neuropsychologists, rehabilitation specialists, and occupational therapists.

Dr. Prešern is an active member of the European Academy of Neurology and contributes to Slovenian national neurology guideline development. He is a lecturer at the University of Ljubljana and is known for his compassionate, thorough approach to patients with complex neurological conditions.

Dr. Prešern obtained his MD from the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine in 2004. He completed his neurology residency at UMC Ljubljana and undertook a neurology fellowship at the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG), Switzerland (2009–2010), focusing on stroke and MS. His PhD from the University of Ljubljana in 2013 focused on early cognitive markers in multiple sclerosis. He is a member of the European Academy of Neurology and is certified by the Slovenian Medical Chamber in neurology.

Dr. Prešern's clinical expertise covers stroke, multiple sclerosis, dementia, epilepsy, and migraine. In stroke care, he manages acute thrombolysis decisions and post-stroke rehabilitation referral. In MS, he prescribes and monitors all disease-modifying therapies and manages relapses. He runs the UMC Ljubljana memory clinic, performing comprehensive cognitive assessments for early dementia diagnosis and managing Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and other cognitive disorders. He performs EEG, EMG, lumbar puncture, and cognitive testing.

Dr. Prešern has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Multiple Sclerosis Journal and the European Journal of Neurology. His research focuses on cognitive impairment in MS, early dementia biomarkers, and stroke outcomes in a small national healthcare system. He collaborates with neurologists in Switzerland and presents at EAN annual congresses.

Dr. Prešern speaks Slovenian, German, and English and is accessible to international patients from neighboring Austria, Germany, and Italy.
