Dr. Sandya Perera

Dr. Sandya Perera is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Asiri Central Hospital in Colombo, part of the Asiri Health Group — one of Sri Lanka's largest private hospital networks. With 14 years of experience, she provides comprehensive women's health services encompassing high-risk obstetrics, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and infertility management.

Dr. Perera trained at the University of Colombo Faculty of Medicine before completing her MD in OB-GYN through the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) Sri Lanka. She also obtained Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG, UK), reflecting her commitment to international training standards.

Her high-risk obstetrics practice manages complicated pregnancies including pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, twin pregnancies, and pregnancies with fetal anomalies. She works collaboratively with physicians, endocrinologists, and paediatricians for complex multidisciplinary obstetric cases.

In gynecology, she performs minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries for conditions including endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and ovarian cysts. She provides infertility consultations and manages patients with PCOS and unexplained infertility.

Dr. Perera earned her MBBS from the University of Colombo Faculty of Medicine. She completed her OB-GYN residency and MD OB-GYN through PGIM Sri Lanka, and obtained MRCOG (UK) from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She has completed advanced training in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery through workshops in Singapore and India, and maintains continuing medical education in reproductive medicine and maternal-fetal medicine through Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists programs.

Dr. Perera's obstetric practice covers routine and high-risk pregnancy management. She performs comprehensive antenatal care, manages obstetric complications, and delivers both vaginal and caesarean sections. She has particular experience with pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes — conditions with high prevalence in Sri Lanka.

In gynecologic surgery, she performs laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, ovarian cystectomy, and endometriosis surgery. She performs hysteroscopy for uterine polyps, submucosal fibroids, and abnormal uterine bleeding assessment.

Her infertility practice includes ovulation induction, IUI, and fertility workup, with referral to IVF centres when indicated. She also manages PCOS, menstrual disorders, and provides perimenopause care.

Dr. Perera has contributed to the Sri Lanka Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and has presented at the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Annual Scientific Sessions. Her clinical interests include obstetric outcomes in high-risk pregnancies and laparoscopic approaches to benign gynecological conditions.

She contributes to continuing medical education for OB-GYN nurses and midwives at Asiri Central Hospital.

Dr. Perera sees international patients at Asiri Central Hospital, which has an international patient services department. She consults in Sinhala and English. Patients from the Maldives and diaspora communities from the UK and Middle East access specialist obstetric and gynecological care through Colombo's private hospitals.
