Dr. Huang Ming-tsung

Dr. Huang Ming-tsung is a neurologist at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) — one of Taiwan's largest and most distinguished medical centres, affiliated with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. With 20 years of neurology experience, he is a leading specialist in movement disorders and stroke, managing a high-volume practice at one of Taiwan's busiest neurology departments.

Dr. Huang completed his MD and PhD at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University before undertaking a movement disorders fellowship at a leading European centre. He returned to TVGH to build the hospital's movement disorders program, including deep brain stimulation (DBS) candidacy assessment and post-operative programming for Parkinson's disease patients.

Taiwan's rapidly ageing population has driven a substantial increase in Parkinson's disease and other age-related neurological conditions, and Dr. Huang's subspecialty positions him at the forefront of this growing clinical need. His stroke practice manages acute ischaemic stroke including thrombolysis administration and secondary prevention.

Dr. Huang earned his MD and PhD from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University College of Medicine. He completed his neurology residency and fellowship at TVGH and undertook a movement disorders fellowship at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Grenoble, France — a world centre for DBS. He is board-certified in Neurology by the Taiwan Neurological Society.

Dr. Huang's primary subspecialty is movement disorders, encompassing Parkinson's disease (including motor and non-motor symptom management), essential tremor, dystonia, multiple system atrophy, and progressive supranuclear palsy. He performs botulinum toxin injections for dystonia and tremor, and conducts DBS candidacy assessments.

In stroke, he manages acute ischaemic stroke including IV thrombolysis, TIA evaluation, and secondary prevention planning. General neurology covers epilepsy, peripheral neuropathy, headache, and multiple sclerosis.

Dr. Huang has published over 75 papers in journals including Movement Disorders, Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, and Stroke. His research focuses on Parkinson's disease biomarkers in Asian populations, DBS outcomes in Taiwanese patients, and stroke incidence and outcomes in Taiwan's ageing population. He serves on the Taiwan Neurological Society's guidelines committee for movement disorders.

Dr. Huang sees international patients at TVGH's international patient centre. He consults in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English. International patients with Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders seeking second opinions or access to DBS programs in Taiwan are particularly well-served by his practice. Dr. Huang received the Taiwan Neurological Society's Young Investigator Award and TVGH's Distinguished Clinical Achievement Award. He serves on the Movement Disorder Society's Asia Pacific Chapter Committee and has been an invited faculty member at the International Congress of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders.
