Prof. Lin Shu-hui

Prof. Lin Shu-hui is a Professor of Medical Oncology at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taoyuan — one of Asia's largest hospitals and a global centre of excellence for liver disease and transplantation. With 23 years of oncology experience, she is recognised as one of Taiwan's leading medical oncologists, with particular expertise in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and gastrointestinal malignancies.

Taiwan has a high burden of hepatitis B-related liver cancer, and Chang Gung's liver programme is world-renowned. Prof. Lin works closely with the hospital's hepatobiliary surgery and transplant teams, providing systemic therapy for patients with unresectable or metastatic HCC, including the latest targeted and immunotherapy combinations approved internationally.

Her precision oncology practice uses comprehensive tumour molecular profiling to guide treatment decisions for patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancers, and she leads clinical trials evaluating novel immunotherapy combinations in HCC and colorectal cancer. International patients from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and overseas Taiwanese communities travel to Chang Gung specifically for liver cancer treatment.

Prof. Lin earned her MD and PhD from Chang Gung University, one of Taiwan's leading medical research universities. She completed her medical oncology fellowship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital — Asia's largest hospital and a globally recognized centre for liver cancer and gastrointestinal oncology. She then undertook postdoctoral research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York — one of the world's pre-eminent cancer institutions — where she gained expertise in precision oncology approaches to hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer. She is board-certified in Medical Oncology by the Taiwan Society of Medical Oncology. Her combined training at Taiwan's premier cancer hospital and at Memorial Sloan Kettering positions her as one of Taiwan's most internationally credentialed gastrointestinal oncologists, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma management.

Prof. Lin's primary focus is hepatocellular carcinoma systemic therapy, including sorafenib, lenvatinib, regorafenib, cabozantinib, and atezolizumab/bevacizumab combinations. She coordinates HCC management within the multidisciplinary liver tumour board integrating surgery, transplant, interventional radiology, and radiation oncology.

For colorectal cancer, she manages chemotherapy regimens (FOLFOX, FOLFIRI, XELOX), targeted therapy (bevacizumab, cetuximab, panitumumab), and immunotherapy for MSI-high tumours. She also treats gastric, pancreatic, and biliary tract cancers and leads clinical trial activities in gastrointestinal oncology.

Prof. Lin has published over 100 papers in journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Hepatology, and the Journal of Hepatology. She has been principal investigator on landmark phase III trials in HCC and contributed to international HCC treatment guidelines. She is a member of the ASCO Gastrointestinal Oncology Programme Committee and presents annually at ASCO and ESMO.

Prof. Lin sees international patients at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital's international medical centre, which provides English-language coordination, case management, and liaison with patients' home-country oncologists. She consults in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English. Chang Gung's liver programme, integrating transplant surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, interventional radiology, and medical oncology, attracts patients from across Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Prof. Lin received the Taiwan Society of Medical Oncology's Excellence in Clinical Research Award for landmark research contributions to hepatocellular carcinoma systemic therapy, including pivotal involvement in international phase III trials that changed HCC treatment standards. She was honoured with the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital research achievement award for sustained academic productivity and clinical excellence.
