Dr. Faridun Nazarov

Dr. Faridun Nazarov is a senior physician in the Internal Medicine Department of the Republican Clinical Hospital in Dushanbe — Tajikistan's primary tertiary care institution and the main referral center for complex medical cases from across the country. With 18 years of clinical practice, Dr. Nazarov manages the chronic non-communicable diseases that are the leading causes of adult morbidity and mortality in Tajikistan: hypertension, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, type 2 diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Tajikistan is one of the lower-income countries in Central Asia, and its healthcare system faces significant resource constraints. Dr. Nazarov's practice is characterized by clinical resourcefulness — making effective diagnostic and therapeutic decisions with limited access to advanced diagnostics and newer medications. He is skilled in clinical ECG interpretation, basic echocardiography report understanding, and the use of available pharmacotherapy to optimize chronic disease outcomes.

He manages patients referred from across Tajikistan's provinces, including mountain communities where specialist access is extremely limited and where patients may arrive with advanced and undertreated chronic conditions. His patience and communication skills are essential in working with patients who may have low health literacy and limited understanding of their diagnoses.

Dr. Nazarov is also a teacher at the Tajik State Medical University, contributing to the training of medical students and internal medicine residents. He communicates in Tajik and Russian.

Dr. Nazarov obtained his MD from the Tajik State Medical University in Dushanbe and completed Internal Medicine residency at the Republican Clinical Hospital. He undertook postgraduate training in cardiovascular medicine at the Russian National Research Medical University (Pirogov University) in Moscow. He holds a PhD in Internal Medicine from the Tajik State Medical University and is registered with the Tajikistan Medical Council's specialist register.

Dr. Nazarov's internal medicine practice addresses hypertension through systematic blood pressure monitoring and antihypertensive regimen optimization. In type 2 diabetes, he manages diet, metformin, sulfonylureas, and insulin therapy with attention to hypoglycemia risk and renal function. For ischemic heart disease and heart failure, he prescribes and monitors the available components of guideline-directed medical therapy. He manages acute and chronic respiratory disease including COPD exacerbations with bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics. He performs ECG interpretation, basic ultrasound assessment, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, and IV fluid therapy.

Dr. Nazarov has published in the Tajik Medical Journal on hypertension management and cardiovascular disease epidemiology in Tajikistan. He participates in the Tajikistan Medical Association activities and WHO Tajikistan country office non-communicable disease programs.

The Republican Clinical Hospital serves Tajikistan's domestic population primarily. Dr. Nazarov consults in Tajik and Russian. International consultation access is limited by infrastructure constraints.
