Dr. Ulugbek Nazarov

Dr. Ulugbek Nazarov is a senior consultant neurosurgeon at the Republican Scientific Center of Neurosurgery in Tashkent — Uzbekistan's dedicated neurosurgery institution and the primary center for complex cranial and spinal surgery across Central Asia's most populous country. With 18 years of neurosurgical practice, Dr. Nazarov manages the full spectrum of neurosurgical disease, providing surgical expertise that has historically required Uzbek patients to travel to Russia for complex procedures.

The Republican Scientific Center of Neurosurgery performs a high volume of procedures annually, serving referrals from Uzbekistan's 14 regions and occasionally from neighboring Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Dr. Nazarov's brain tumor surgery uses the operative microscope and neuronavigation where available for resection of gliomas, meningiomas, and metastatic lesions. His spinal surgery covers the standard degenerative procedures most commonly needed in the patient population.

His neurotrauma experience is extensive, reflecting Uzbekistan's road traffic accident burden. He manages acute traumatic brain injury, acute subdural and extradural hematomas, skull fractures, and spinal cord injuries, coordinating with the neurointensive care team for optimal outcomes.

Dr. Nazarov trained in Germany and is committed to maintaining European neurosurgery standards at the Republican Scientific Center. He communicates in Uzbek, Russian, and English.

Dr. Nazarov obtained his MD from the Tashkent State Medical Institute and completed Neurosurgery residency at the Republican Scientific Center of Neurosurgery. He undertook advanced neurosurgical training at the Universitätsklinikum Freiburg in Germany — a leading German neurosurgery center with particular expertise in skull base and spinal surgery. He holds a PhD in Neurosurgery from the Uzbekistan Ministry of Health Research Institute. He is a member of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies.

Dr. Nazarov's neurosurgical practice covers cranial and spinal surgery. In cranial surgery, he performs craniotomies with neuronavigation for primary and secondary brain tumor resection, evacuation of traumatic and spontaneous intracranial hematomas, decompressive craniectomy for refractory intracranial hypertension, and ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion for hydrocephalus. In spinal surgery, he performs cervical ACDF, posterior cervical decompression, lumbar microdiscectomy, lumbar decompression, and instrumented fusion for instability. He uses intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring for high-risk spinal procedures. He manages the neurointensive care of complex TBI and postoperative neurosurgical patients.

Dr. Nazarov has published in the Uzbekistan Medical Journal and contributed to WFNS registry data. He participates in the Uzbekistan Neurosurgical Society activities and presents at the national neurosurgery conference and regional Central Asian neurosurgery meetings. He collaborates with German neurosurgery centers through the academic exchange.

The Republican Scientific Center of Neurosurgery serves Uzbekistan's domestic population and receives occasional international referrals from neighboring Central Asian countries.
