Dr. Sherzod Tursunov

Dr. Sherzod Tursunov is a senior emergency physician at the Republican Scientific Centre of Emergency Medicine (RSCM) in Tashkent — Uzbekistan's dedicated national emergency medicine centre and the highest-level emergency facility in Central Asia. With 15 years of experience in this high-volume, specialised emergency setting, he manages a broad spectrum of acute medical and surgical conditions. Tashkent's rapid urbanisation, road traffic accident burden, industrial poisonings, and cardiovascular disease epidemiology shape his caseload: trauma, cardiac emergencies, poisoning and overdose, and acute respiratory failure are daily presentations. ATLS-certified and with training in thrombolysis for acute myocardial infarction and stroke, he provides internationally standard time-sensitive emergency management. The RSCM is also a training centre for emergency medicine in Central Asia, and Dr. Tursunov has contributed to developing emergency medicine as a specialty in Uzbekistan.

Dr. Tursunov obtained his MD from the Tashkent State Medical Institute — Uzbekistan's main national medical university — and completed his specialist certification in Emergency Medicine at the Tashkent Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education. He earned ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) provider certification and completed WHO-supported training in clinical toxicology relevant to Central Asia's industrial and agricultural poisoning landscape. He has participated in international emergency medicine training programmes offered by the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM) and has attended regional Central Asian emergency medicine workshops. He contributes to teaching emergency medicine procedures to nursing and junior medical staff at RSCM.

Dr. Tursunov's emergency medicine expertise is comprehensive. Trauma management — including polytrauma from road accidents and industrial injuries — involves primary survey, damage control resuscitation, chest tube insertion, and coordination with emergency surgery. Cardiac emergencies include acute coronary syndrome management with thrombolysis and monitoring, arrhythmia management, and cardiac arrest resuscitation using advanced life support. Toxicology practice covers organophosphate poisoning (common in agricultural Uzbekistan), drug overdose, alcohol poisoning, and industrial chemical exposures — he applies specific antidotes and supportive toxicology management. Stroke management follows time-to-thrombolysis protocols. Burns are assessed using Lund-Browder charts and managed with fluid resuscitation and referral to the burns unit. Airway management including rapid sequence intubation is a core procedural competency.

Dr. Tursunov consults in Uzbek, Russian, and English. Tashkent's growing role as a Central Asian medical hub and its developing medical tourism sector means international visitors, business travellers, and expatriates in Uzbekistan requiring emergency care are best directed to the Republican Scientific Centre of Emergency Medicine or to the better-equipped private clinics in Tashkent. He can communicate in English for international patients and coordinate with international medical evacuation services for cases requiring repatriation. He advises visitors to Uzbekistan to register with their embassy and carry travel health insurance with evacuation coverage.

Dr. Tursunov is a member of the Uzbekistan Medical Association and the Central Asian Emergency Medicine Society. He has been recognised by the Uzbekistan Ministry of Health for his contributions to developing emergency medicine training standards at RSCM. He has participated in WHO Central Asia emergency preparedness exercises and has contributed to mass casualty triage training for Uzbekistan's national disaster medicine response system. He mentors emergency medicine residents and trainees at RSCM and has contributed to the development of the Central Asian Emergency Medicine curriculum.
