Calvary Health Care ACT

Calvary Health Care ACT is a fully accredited 364 bed public and private hospital located in a beautiful bushland setting in the northern suburbs of Canberra. Recently refurbished, Calvary is a modern facility with contemporary team-based care and cutting edge technology. Calvary continues to grow and develop as we improve our services today and prepare for the services of tomorrow.
Calvary enjoys a reputation in the Canberra community for exemplary care. Services include a busy Emergency Department, an Intensive & Coronary Care Unit, Medical and Surgical wards, a Maternity Unit and a voluntary Psychiatric ward.
It is a modern healthcare service with its centrepiece being a 250-bed public general hospital that is a teaching hospital associated with The Australian Catholic University, the Australian National University and the University of Canberra.
The complex also has a co-located 95-bed private hospital and a 19-bed hospice - Clare Holland House - located a short distance away from the hospital campus in an idyllic setting on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

All services are operated by the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary. Our Mission is to provide the highest standard of care and service to the people of Canberra and the surrounding districts.
The Little Company of Mary was founded by the Venerable Mary Potter, on an offer of hope and significance for the sick and dying. It is this hope and significance that permeates our health facilities and gives us the special atmosphere of peace and compassion. The company separately administers seven provinces around the world led by an elected Congregational Leader and Council residing in London. The Little Company of Mary Health Care comprises 26 health facilities situated across five states in Australia. Calvary Health Care ACT is one of these health facilities.
Calvary Public and Calvary Private Hospitals provide an extensive range of inpatient, ambulatory care and outreach facilities and services.

Calvary Health Care ACT is a not-for-profit hospital that provides public and private hospital services within the Australian Capital Territory. We employ more than 1,000 staff across all the services and manage 334 beds in the acute and sub-acute sectors. Calvary Health Care ACT is situated in a beautiful bushland setting serving the community in the northern part of the ACT and surrounding areas.
Calvary Health Care ACT was built in 1979 as the second public hospital in the ACT. The private hospital commenced operations in 1987.
On 15 February 2007 we opened the new ACT Older Persons Unit. Housed in the Keaney Building (No. 9 on the site map)the new sub-acute facility contains an additional 48 beds. The Unit is for older people in our community requiring either rehabilitation or psycho-geriatric care.
Calvary Health Care ACT is owned by the Little Company of Mary Health Care, a national organisation providing hospital services, aged care, home-based and palliative care at 26 locations around Australia.

Mission & Values
Our mission

OTo bring the healing ministry of Jesus to those who are sick, dying, and in need through ‘being for others':

  • in the Spirit of Mary standing by her Son on Calvary
  • through the provision of quality, responsive and compassionate health, aged and community care services based on Gospel values, and
  • in celebration of the rich heritage and story of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary.

Our vision

To be, and to be recognised as, a leader in strengthening and developing Catholic health at regional and national levels through the creation of integrated models of care where excellence and leadership are pursued by all to best meet the needs of the people and communities we serve.

Our values

As stewards of the rich heritage of care and compassion of the Little Company of Mary, we are guided by our values:

  • Hospitality: we demonstrate and foster openness to others in a spirit of warmth, compassion, and gracious receptivity.
  • Healing: we anticipate and respond to the needs of people by the provision of holistic care.
  • Stewardship: we ensure that our philosophy governs the way we relate to our people and to the communities we serve, that we respect and care for our environment, and that we use our scarce health care resources to best advantage as a united group.
  • Respect: we respect the sacredness of the gift of life, the value and dignity of all persons and our obligation to relate to all with justice and compassion.
