EJ De Smedt wished to establish a private hospital based on the Christian worldview. On January 10, 1960 he gave the order to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. This command was accepted with enthusiasm.
Among the thrust and the dynamic spirit of canon F. Vanden Berghe, general manager of the congregation, St. Luke was presented as the patron saint of the hospital, because St. Luke is the patron saint of physicians.
