Ba Mission Hospital

Ba Mission Hospital is one of the oldest healthcare institutions in Fiji, established in 1914 by the Methodist Church in Fiji. Located in the town of Ba on the northern coast of Viti Levu, the hospital has served the Ba community and surrounding rural areas for over a century, making it a deeply rooted institution in Fijian healthcare history.

As a non-profit mission hospital, Ba Mission Hospital operates under a faith-based model focused on providing affordable and accessible healthcare to the local population. The hospital offers general medicine, maternity and antenatal care, minor surgical procedures, and community health outreach programs. It has historically played an important role in maternal and child health services for the Ba Province.

The hospital serves a primarily agricultural community in the sugar cane belt of western Fiji. Its location between the larger hospitals in Lautoka and the rural health centers of the Ba Province makes it an important intermediate-level facility. Patients requiring more advanced surgical or specialist care are typically referred to Lautoka Hospital or CWMH in Suva.

Ba Mission Hospital reflects the significant role that faith-based organizations have played in Pacific Island healthcare. While it operates with more limited resources than government divisional hospitals, it continues to provide essential primary and secondary healthcare services to the Ba community, with a particular emphasis on maternal health and community-based preventive care.

Ba Mission Hospital is a small community-oriented facility that primarily serves the local population of Ba and surrounding villages. It is not positioned as a medical tourism destination and does not have dedicated international patient services.

International visitors who experience a medical issue while in the Ba area may seek care at the hospital for minor ailments and emergencies. However, for anything beyond basic medical care, visitors are advised to travel to Lautoka Hospital (approximately 35 kilometers away) or to private medical facilities in the Nadi-Lautoka corridor.
