Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), known in English as the National Heart Institute of Malaysia, is the country's premier specialist cardiovascular and thoracic hospital. Cardiac surgery services include open heart surgery, off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), minimally invasive cardiac surgery, valve repair and replacement, endoscopic vein harvesting, congenital heart defect repair in adults and children, and the implantation of mechanical heart assist devices. Heart transplantation is performed at IJN, one of the few centres in Malaysia with this capability. Bone marrow stem cell transplantation for severe ischaemic heart disease is also offered.

Interventional cardiology services encompass coronary angiography (diagnostic and via radial artery access), percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty and stenting), implantation of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and Automated Implantable Cardioverter Shock devices. Electrophysiology studies and ablation for arrhythmia management are performed.

Paediatric cardiac services cover congenital heart disease in infants, children, and adolescents including complex open and closed heart procedures. Cardiothoracic surgical services extend to thoracic conditions including lung, oesophageal, and chest wall surgery.

Institut Jantung Negara operates from a dedicated specialist facility at No. 145 Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, with a bed capacity of reportedly approximately 313 beds, comprising inpatient cardiac wards, a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), an ICU for cardiac surgical patients, a Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and a Paediatric Cardiac Care Unit.

The institute maintains multiple fully equipped cardiac operating theatres configured for open heart surgery, minimally invasive cardiac procedures, and paediatric cardiac surgery. Cardiac catheterisation laboratories support the high volume of interventional cardiology procedures performed. Hybrid operating rooms enable combined surgical and interventional approaches for complex cases.

Diagnostic imaging capabilities include cardiac MRI, CT coronary angiography, nuclear cardiology (SPECT), echocardiography (transthoracic, transoesophageal, and stress echocardiography), digital X-ray, and fluoroscopy. The clinical laboratory at IJN specialises in cardiovascular-related pathology. A 24-hour emergency cardiac service manages acute coronary syndromes and life-threatening cardiac emergencies.
