Alexandra Hospital

Alexandra Hospital (AH) is a public hospital located on Alexandra Road in the Queenstown district of Singapore, operated under the National University Health System (NUHS). The hospital has a distinguished history dating from the early 1930s when it was built as a British Military Hospital. Following the end of British military presence in Singapore, the facility was handed over to the Singapore government and restructured for civilian use.

Alexandra Hospital was formally restructured on 1 October 2000 and joined the National Healthcare Group (NHG). In subsequent healthcare cluster reorganisations, the hospital transitioned to the NUHS cluster, aligning it with the National University Hospital, the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and associated specialist facilities. Today, AH is a key community hospital serving the western and central-southern regions of Singapore.

Currently operating with approximately 326 beds, Alexandra Hospital is undergoing one of the most significant redevelopments in Singapore's healthcare history. In May 2024, the Singapore Ministry of Health officially broke ground on the redeveloped Alexandra Hospital Campus, which will transform the facility into an Integrated General Hospital (IGH) with approximately 1,300 beds and an adjacent 400-bed nursing home. This redevelopment is expected to open progressively from 2028.

Alexandra Hospital is also central to Singapore's first Health District initiative in Queenstown, a collaborative model bringing together healthcare institutions, public agencies, and community partners to improve residents' health across their entire lifespan in the neighbourhood setting.

The hospital has diagnostic imaging including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT services. Its Endoscopy suite handles gastrointestinal diagnostics and minor interventions. The Diabetes Centre is equipped for comprehensive diabetic foot care, diabetic eye screening, and structured diabetes education. The Psychological Wellness Centre offers counselling and psychiatric services for both inpatients and community patients.
