The National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) is the national specialist dental centre in Singapore's public healthcare system, providing advanced specialist dental and oral health care services. Incorporated under the Companies Act on 8 August 1995, NDCS commenced clinical operations on 1 March 1997. On 31 March 2000, NDCS came under the management of SingHealth, becoming one of five national specialty centres in Singapore's largest public healthcare cluster.

NDCS is not a general dental clinic — it functions as a specialist referral centre for complex dental conditions that general dentists and polyclinic dental services refer onwards. The centre's specialists handle cases requiring advanced training and technology, including dental implants, jaw surgery, complex root canal treatment, severe gum disease, and orthodontic correction for adults and children with complex needs.

The centre maintains an active teaching and research programme. It is a major training site for dental students, dental surgery officers, and specialist registrars, working in partnership with the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Dentistry. NDCS sets the standard for specialist dental practice in Singapore and is a leader in dental research within the SingHealth system.

NDCS provides specialist dental services across all five recognised dental specialties in Singapore, plus advanced surgical oral care through Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS).

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) covers jaw surgery for correction of facial skeletal deformities (orthognathic surgery), complex tooth extractions, surgical management of facial trauma, jaw tumour and cyst removal, dental implant placement in complex cases, and management of facial pain and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Orthodontics provides specialist orthodontic treatment for complex malocclusion in both children and adults, including fixed braces, clear aligner therapy, and combined orthodontic-surgical treatment for severe jaw discrepancies.

Restorative Dentistry encompasses Endodontics (specialist root canal treatment for complex cases), Periodontics (advanced gum and bone disease treatment, including periodontal surgery and maintenance), and Prosthodontics (complex dental rehabilitation using crowns, bridges, implant-supported restorations, and full-arch reconstructions).

Paediatric Dentistry addresses the dental needs of children, including those with special healthcare needs requiring general anaesthesia for dental treatment. The NDCS Oral Medicine Clinic manages systemic conditions with oral manifestations including oral cancer, oral ulcers (including Behcet's disease), burning mouth syndrome, and salivary gland disorders.

The National Dental Centre Singapore is equipped with modern dental technology across multiple clinical floors in its building at Second Hospital Avenue, adjacent to the Outram Park MRT station.

Operating theatres and sedation rooms allow complex dental procedures to be performed under general anaesthesia or IV sedation, accommodating anxious patients, children with behavioural management challenges, and patients requiring extensive multi-tooth procedures in a single session. Cone Beam CT (CBCT) provides 3D dental imaging essential for implant planning, orthognathic surgery planning, and complex root canal anatomy assessment.

Digital panoramic and cephalometric radiography supports orthodontic treatment planning and routine assessment. Intraoral scanning technology creates accurate digital impressions for crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances without traditional putty impressions. CAD/CAM milling equipment enables same-visit crown fabrication in some cases. The Periodontics department features a dedicated perio suite for surgical procedures including bone grafting, soft tissue grafts, and full-mouth debridement under local anaesthesia.

The centre's research laboratory supports clinical and translational dental research. A dedicated patient education area provides oral hygiene instruction and prevention advice. NDCS's dental pharmacy stocks specialist dental materials and medications. The centre's clinical laboratory processes histopathology specimens from oral biopsies taken in the OMFS and Oral Medicine clinics.
