NHG Polyclinics (NHGP) is the primary care arm of the National Healthcare Group (NHG), operating a network of eight polyclinics distributed across central Singapore. NHGP plays a foundational role in Singapore's healthcare system by delivering accessible, affordable, and comprehensive primary care to the communities it serves, supporting the NHG cluster's vision of 'Adding years of healthy life to the people of Singapore.'

Polyclinics are the backbone of Singapore's primary healthcare system, providing heavily government-subsidised healthcare to Singapore citizens and residents. Each NHG polyclinic is a multi-service primary care facility staffed by family physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, and allied health professionals working collaboratively to address patients' full primary healthcare needs under one roof.

NHGP's eight polyclinics are located in the central region of Singapore, including at Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok, Clementi, Hougang, Jurong, Toa Payoh, Woodlands, and Yishun, and collectively manage hundreds of thousands of patient attendances each year. The polyclinic system is designed to be the first point of contact for non-emergency healthcare, effectively triaging patients to the right level of care and managing chronic disease outside hospital settings.

NHGP is committed to the highest standards of ethical practice, patient welfare, and continuous learning. Its staff undergo ongoing professional development and training, and its facilities participate in quality improvement programmes aligned with MOH's primary care standards. NHGP works closely with acute hospitals in the NHG cluster, particularly Tan Tock Seng Hospital, to ensure seamless referral and co-management of patients with complex needs.

NHG Polyclinics provide a comprehensive range of primary and preventive healthcare services at each of its eight locations, covering both general medicine and specialist outreach.

General Practice and Family Medicine provides consultations for acute illnesses, minor injuries, chronic disease management, and general health concerns. Family physicians manage common conditions including upper respiratory tract infections, gastroenteritis, hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolaemia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the community setting.

Dental Services at polyclinics provide routine dental care including scaling and polishing, fillings, simple extractions, and basic oral health advice. Dental subsidies are available for Singapore citizens and selected resident categories.

Pharmacy services dispense both acute and chronic medications, including subsidised medications for chronic conditions under the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) and Medication Assistance Fund (MAF) programmes.

Preventive Health and Health Promotion services include nationally-run health screening programmes (Screen for Life), vaccinations (Childhood Immunisation Programme and National Adult Immunisation Schedule), antenatal care, cancer screening (mammography, cervical smear, colorectal screening), and workplace health promotion.

Allied health services available at polyclinics include Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, and Podiatry, supporting chronic disease management and rehabilitation without hospital admission. Specialist Outpatient Clinics (SOC) allow polyclinic patients to see visiting specialists from TTSH and other NHG hospitals at the polyclinic location, reducing the need for patients to travel to hospital.

Each NHG polyclinic is purpose-built or renovated to modern healthcare standards, equipped to deliver multi-service primary care efficiently for high patient volumes. Polyclinics typically see several hundred patients per day.

Facilities at each NHG polyclinic include multiple consultation rooms for general medicine and specialist outpatient clinics, a dental surgery suite with multiple dental chairs, a pharmacy with dispensing and medication counselling areas, a clinical laboratory for point-of-care and send-out diagnostic tests, and diagnostic imaging including digital X-ray and ultrasound where applicable.

Health promotion and patient education areas provide structured programmes for chronic disease management, smoking cessation, dietary counselling, and exercise support. Vaccination rooms are equipped with appropriate cold chain storage for vaccines. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and dietetics rooms provide dedicated allied health consultation space.

NHGP has invested in digital health infrastructure including electronic health records integrated with the National Electronic Health Record (NEHR) system, enabling continuity of care as patients move between polyclinics and acute hospitals. Patient appointment booking via the HealthHub mobile app and SingPass-integrated patient portal reduces waiting times. Teleconsultation capabilities at NHGP polyclinics allow follow-up consultations for stable chronic conditions without requiring an in-person visit.

NHG Polyclinics primarily serve Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders who are entitled to government healthcare subsidies. However, international visitors and tourists in Singapore can attend polyclinics for primary care consultations at unsubsidised rates, which remain significantly more cost-effective than private clinic or hospital emergency department fees for minor conditions.

For international patients with minor acute illnesses, injuries, or medication needs during a visit to Singapore, polyclinics provide an accessible and affordable option. Each NHG polyclinic is staffed by doctors who communicate in English, with additional language support in Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil available from nursing and administrative staff.

Expats living in Singapore on long-term employment or dependent passes are eligible to attend polyclinics but typically at rates lower than full international patient charges. Foreign domestic workers on work permits may be eligible for subsidised care depending on their employer's CPF contribution status.

For complex medical needs beyond primary care, NHGP doctors can refer international patients to NHG's specialist hospitals including Tan Tock Seng Hospital. NHGP maintains referral pathways and care coordination links with the full NHG hospital network, ensuring patients with needs beyond primary care are directed to the appropriate level of specialist attention.

NHG Polyclinics are regulated by the Ministry of Health Singapore under the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics Act, which sets licensing and quality standards for all medical clinics including government polyclinics. MOH's Primary Care Division monitors polyclinic performance through a framework of key quality indicators covering patient safety, clinical quality, patient experience, and efficiency.

NHGP participates in the Joint Commission International (JCI) Primary Care Accreditation programme for selected polyclinics, reflecting NHGP's commitment to international primary care quality standards. Polyclinics also participate in the NHGP Quality and Patient Safety programme, including structured clinical audits, infection control protocols, and patient experience surveys.

All NHGP family physicians are registered with the Singapore Medical Council and hold either the Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) or equivalent postgraduate qualification. NHGP dentists are registered with the Singapore Dental Council. Allied health professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and dietitians are registered with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC).
